Dissertation Academic Editing (MA and PhD)
1. Initial review document and submit a sample edit: 1-2 hours of editing
$35/hr for MA
$45/hr for PhD or for publication
* This price does not include any research service
PROCESS:
- First, you e-mail your document, even if it is not ready completely. Using track changes, I will spend 1-2 hours editing a few pages. I will return your document with my edits for your review. For this service, I charge $70 to $90.
HOURS MAY VARY:
- Every document is different: depends on the current shape of the original document and the need
- MA Theses: may take longer to edit because the author may be less experienced than doctoral writers
2. Estimate based on review & proposed contract (with meeting)
- If you decide to work with me, then I will send you a proposed contract outlining: editing needs, costs, payment terms, date of completion, etc.
3. Editing stage:
- I use "track changes" and use "comments" function to make suggestions. For formatting, I turn off "track changes"
a. Technical Editing 1-2 pages/hr (MA); 2-3 pages/hr (PhD)
(readability, flow, organization, academic voice, word choice)
b. Copyediting: approx. 2-3 pages/hr (MA); 3-5 pages/hr (PhD)
(APA/MLA adherence, grammar, formatting, punctuation)
c, General Formatting: approx. 8-10 pages/hr
(margins, pagination, headings, block quotes, references)
d. Tables: 10 mins to 1 hr
(review and editing format; depending on the number and the complexity of the tables and figures)
e. Reference list w/ in-text citation check: 0-5 hrs
(depending on the length of the document)
4. Meeting: It is important to have a meeting, after steps 1-3 have been completed. During this meeting, we can discuss further plans or you can ask further questions. This meeting can either be via phone, Skype, or in-person.
5. Payment terms: In-person check or PayPal. Initial deposit may be required. Once the work has been completed, the final payment is due. Once received, I will email you the final edited document.
6. Calling or emailing with questions: Feel free to call or email with questions. Unless it requires a substantial amount of time, I will not charge for this time.
